Amazon.com Product Description
The X-Treme Scooters Electric Bicycle Scooter Moped is the ultimate alternative for commuters that need a quick way to travel but do not want the expense of operating a vehicle or motorcycle. Equipped with four 12-AMP batteries and a brushless rear 550 watt hub motor, the Electric Bicycle Scooter Moped can travel for up to 25 miles per charge and goes 20 miles an hour, making it great for gas-free commuting. Pedals come included but do not need to be installed, and because the Scooter Moped is classified as a power-assisted bicycle, you do not need a driver's license to ride the bike on the street. The electric bicycle does not have to be registered with the DMV, and if you follow the bicycle laws, you should be able to ride this bike any place bicycles are allowed to operate (Per Federal Electric Bicycle Law H.R. 727).

The Electric Bicycle Scooter Moped's large 500-watt brushless rear hub motor is installed in the center of the rear wheel and is powered by four large high-power batteries. The batteries will last for three years or more and can be re-charged more than 500 times. The electric bicycle will travel for 20 to 25 miles on a single charge and travels at up to 20 miles per hour. For additional convenience, the Scooter Moped is partially foldable for storage and transport and the front wheel can be removed.

The Electric Bicycle Scooter Moped is street ready with a solid, front and rear braking system, a Dual Sport headlight system, taillight, brake light, blinkers, and electric horn for maximum safety and visibility. The bike is also equipped with a speedometer and battery indicator. Front and rear shock absorbing as well as a spring-loaded seat make for a comfortable ride even on uneven surfaces, and the bike can be ridden by up to two people. Sixteen by 2.5 inch tires on durable aluminum wheels provide stability and traction for road riding. The bike motor starts a key and a variable speed control twist throttle. The bike is also equipped with a kickstand, tool kit, cargo rack, and multiple storage areas: a large area below the seat, a large trunk, and a small area near the key.

Equipped with four 12 volt, 20 AMP batteries with a life of three or more years, the Electric Bicycle Scooter Moped features a powerful battery set up. The bike runs for 20 to 25 miles per charge and can still be pedal operated when out of battery power. A Smart Charger is included with the bike.

5 out of 5 stars ridden every day for two years   August 23, 2010

I have ridden this extreme e-bike for 2 years everyday. I love it. It is made in China. It is not perfect, but I have not had much problem with it. I had a flat tire on the back, but I fixed it with never leak or fix-a-flat. I never let the charge get totally dead, so it has always charged. The instructions are about useless, but I did manage to put the rest together by myself and I was a 53 year old 5' tall woman with determination. I really like the storage in the seat and trunk, because I even rode it in the winter(I could not ride it on ice, that would be stupid.) I could load $200.00 worth of groceries on it using recycle bags sat in front of me.

we owned an xb-500 for two years. While I loved the power, style and range of it, we had many problems. We had three flats which we had to pay a scooter shop to repair at $50 each. This shop said that a cable ran too close the wheel on the front tire and that it was dangerous to drive. The headlights quit working after a month. I was able fix them by reconnecting a wire, but I had to pull off the dash cover. Then the charger quit working after about 10 months. I'm not sure why, but the blinkers never worked. Please, consider the cost and how you will maintain this bike if you buy one.

I researched electric bikes for some time before I settled on this one. After some shipping delays, it arrived a couple days ago. It comes in a huge box, which weighs 76K--167 pounds. Once inside, it's bolted to a pretty dirty steel cage, so be prepared to get smelly and dirty! The front axle bolt is threaded through the cage, it takes some time and patience to work that out. The instructions are close to useless, but it's pretty obvious where most of the stuff is supposed to go. Just be patient! And don't be afraid of getting dirty.
I'm 5', about 110, and was able to wrestle it around, so I would think most people shouldn't have a problem. I put it together, charged it up, turned it on. I forgot that electric bikes don't make a starting noise, and I hit the throttle and just about mowed down my dining room table. So watch for the quiet operation! ;) The horn on the other hand is pretty loud and harsh--everyone's going to know you're coming. The lighting is fantastic, lights are big and bright, huge brake lights, great front and back turning signals. It has high beams as well.
I haven't had a chance to really test it out on distances, I've been getting used to it--it does take off pretty fast, so practice somewhere where you won't run into things--like NOT the dining room! ;)
I will post more as I learn more. So far, 100% great, neighbors are envious, co-workers want one.

**NOTE: the speedometer display is in kilometers per hour. 32.2 KPH=20 MPH. So, if you are trying to comply with federal regualtions, that's where it should be.

UPDATE: Two weeks later I am still waiting on my warranty replacement charger from XTreme Scooters. I did buy another @www.monsterscooterparts.com. They've got great prices and great service. Their charger is better and quieter as well.

I have run the bike through pouring Houston rain and been fine. I weigh around 115 lbs and the bike gets up to a nice steady 42KMH which translates to just over 26 MPH. I can run it there for 15-17 miles. After it hits the yellow bar, it drops down pretty quickly. I take the battery out of the bike and charge it that way, since I live in an upstairs condo and this bike is way too heavy to cart up the stairs. Also, there is no way this is 'foldable' or whatever it it says on this website. It's heavy and bulky, you'd need a couple people and a truck to get it around.

All in all this is a great product, I'm having a ton of fun and still getting compliments and questions everywhere I go. I usually have a big grin stuck on my face when I'm riding. ;)

I am about 5'11 230 pounds, and had some qualms about the potential power in these bikes. I happened to find one that was for sale "Like new/barely used" locally for much less than a new one cost, and jumped on it. I am so happy that I did.

The motor on the bike is easily able to propel me up to its top speed of 20 mph. Granted, with my extra weight (It uses 170 lb rider as its guideline) I lose a few miles on the charge, but thats ok.

2 things to note. 1) The speedometer on mine was saying I was going 40. I had someone pace me and found that it was displaying roughly double the actual speed, so 40=20. 2) THIS IS SO MUCH FUN!

I will write another review after appx 3-4 months of use. For me, however, this is a perfect. I am a 64 year old man with serious heart disease. I need regular exercise, but have to stop if I feel my heart stressing too much. The X-Treme Electric Bicycle XB-502 allows me that flexibility. I can pedal or turn on the electric drive and cruise. A perfect fit also was the low price which allowed me to buy it for cash. Also perfect is I need no drivers license, do not have to register it, or insure it. I can ride it on bicycle paths just like a regular bike, or on the street where allowed.
